The Yuyun type is a fleet type destroyer planned as a changing sun type. Nameship "Yukumo" was completed in December 1941 and participated in operations such as the Midway Sea Battle and the South Pacific Sea Battle and played an active part in the direct defense mission. In October 1943, he was engaged in the battle with the US destroyer and was sunk in the waters of Bella and Lovela.

"Hayanami" was completed in July 1943 and was incorporated into the 32nd destroyer. It was sunk by the American submarine lightning strike in the Sea of Celebes in June 1944.
