FAQs
Can I extend my slot car track set?
The brands Scalextric, Carrera (both Evolution and Go!!!) and AFX has options to extend your track. In most cases, the box of your slot car set has layout options for the extension sets you purchase in the future. The slot car variants Scalex43, Micro Scalextric and My First Carrera don’t offer track extensions or cars seperately.
Can I extend my slot car track too much?
On a single power track, yes it is possible to lose power on the other side due to the length of the track. A power track can generally support up to 14 metres of track length by itself. However, if you are looking to go beyond that, you can place wires underneath the track (Soldering Required). Carrera Evolution and Carrera Digital 132 sets provide extension wires that can clip underneath the track.
What is digital?
Digital Slot car sets are a system where it is capable to run 6 cars on a single 2 lane system. How does that work? Well for an analogue slot car set, the controller powers the entire lane on the layout, making the car move. For digital sets, the track always has full live power, and each car has a digital chip (or plug). So the controller powers the chip inside the car. Therefore, you can run mutiple cars at once.
Can I upgrade my track to a digital track?
If you have Scalextric or Carrera Evolution, yes you can upgrade. Purchasing a Scalextric digital set or a Carrera Digital 132 set will provide you with the equipment necessary to upgrade to digital. (For Scalextric cars) If you are looking to upgrade the cars from the older set, you can upgrade them with digital chips (If the car has DPR or digital plug ready as a feature, it’s an easy install). If you are looking to purchase the parts seperately, you need the following: Digital Power Track, Transformer suitable for the digital power track, Cars with Digital plugs and Digital controllers.
Can Scalextric cars work on Carrera Tracks or vice versa?
We do not recommend using different brand of cars on a slot car track. Other than the braids being the incorrect fitting, the voltages and amperages of the track will be different as well even though they are the same scale. Stick to the brands for the best performance.
What scale is my slot car set?
The following will show the scale and the brand(s) that will be associated with that scale:
- 1/64: AFX, Micro Scalextric, My First Carrera
- 1/43: Carrera GO!!!, Scalex43
- 1/32: Scalextric, Carrera Evolution, Carrera Digital 132
