Originally constructed to store "town gas" and "coal gas"—byproducts of coke production—these facilities supplied power to street lighting, residential appliances, and machinery before widespread electrification. The tanks featured moveable sections that adjusted vertically to regulate gas pressure in underground distribution networks. Molded in black plastic with intricately detailed trusses and steelwork, the model can be assembled to represent either a full or empty tank condition. Applicable to steam and diesel-era scenes, one or two tanks effectively suggest a larger industrial complex in space-constrained layouts. American-prototype design available for the first time in model form.
