Description

The 2S1 Gvozdika is a Soviet 122-mm self-propelled howitzer that resembles the PT-76 but is essentially a version of the MT-LB APC, mounting the 2A18 howitzer. 2S1" is its GRAU designation.In the Russian Army it is commonly known as Gvozdika. The 2S1 is fully amphibious with very little preparation, and once afloat is propelled by its tracks. A variety of wider tracks are also available to allow the 2S1 to operate in snow or swamp conditions. It is NBC protected and has infra-red night-vision capability.

Colorado Class Battleship. The second ship to be named after the 35th State, and the fourth and last in the Colorado class. Laid down at the Newport News shipyard in April 1920, launched in 1921 and commissioned for service on December 1st 1923. During the 'twenties and 'thirties WEST VIRGINIA was engaged on training and various fleet problem-solving exercises. Deployed to Hawaii in 1940, later hit and badly damaged by the Japanese Navy in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. Refloated in May 1942 and dry-docked for rehabilitation and extensive modernisation. After refit was completed in July 1944, WEST VIRGINIA resumed active service in the Leyte Gulf naval battle, Lingayan Gulf, and battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. WEST VIRGINIA assisted the Allied Forces after Japan's surrender, finally returning to standby.
