The battleship conducted trials in Chesapeake Bay before Pacific deployment in 1944, where it participated in the Marshall Islands Campaign, Battle of the Philippine Sea, Battle of Leyte Gulf, and related operations. Later saw Korean War service in the 1950s, served as a training platform, and entered reserve status. Recommissioned during the 1980s, the vessel suffered a turret explosion on April 17, 1989 that claimed 47 sailors. Decommissioned in 1990 and struck from the naval register on March 17, 2006, subsequently transferred to the Texas Bay National Defense Reserve Fleet where it operates as a floating museum. Kit features multi-directional slide-molded hull, detailed deck wood patterning, display stand, and photo-etched parts.
