Description
Often deployed on tactical reconnaissance missions during the Pacific War, the KI-46 III was powered by two 1,300hp Ha-112-II engines. Its smooth, stretched canopy and rounded engine cowlings bear testament to its designers focus on aerodynamics, borne out by the fact that it was the fastest among its peers with a maximum airspeed of 630km/h. It started to see live action from 1944, flying missions in South-East Asia and over the Pacific.
Designed to a specification issued by the Japanese Army, 4,800 of the Type 95 also known as the Kurogane were manufactured and used by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force.
