Field kitchens varied depending on the unit type—horse-drawn in infantry divisions, truck-drawn in panzer or mechanized formations—and were accompanied by limbers and transport carts.

Each kitchen had to support daily rations, including bread, meat, peas, sausage, and essential staples, often totaling several tons per division.

The design also allowed for alternative wheel types, such as pneumatic tyres, when drawn by trucks instead of horses.
