Originally developed by adding armour to the 1-ton Sd.Kfz. 250 chassis, this versatile vehicle featured 14.5mm front armour and 8mm side armour , while a reduced track roller arrangement and modified torsion bar suspension kept the vehicle light and mobile.

Among the many variants of the Sd.Kfz. 250, the /3 “Greif” is particularly celebrated for its role as a command vehicle.

Used by General Erwin Rommel during the North African campaign, it saw action in the Battle of Tobruk in June 1942.

The name “Greif” (Griffin) was proudly painted on its sides, symbolising the winged beast of Greek mythology and reflecting its prestigious role on the battlefield.
