Mention London, and most people will think of the Queen, Big Ben and double-decker buses. The most iconic double-decker bus of them all is the AEC Routemaster. Introduced in 1956, this British staple was developed in conjunction with London Transport, the bus primary customer. Nearly 3,000 Routemasters were built before their official 2005 retirement, but a select few Routemasters remain in use on two London heritage routes. An updated version is anticipated to hit the streets in 2012.

Background information:

The AEC Routemaster, first introduced in 1954, impressed with its innovative design. What was particularly characteristic was the open entry platform, which made it possible to get in and out quickly. The bus became a symbol of London and plied the streets of the capital for almost 50 years before ceasing service in 2005. With this kit you can recreate a piece of London history and admire it in your own home.
