The original ship “Hermann Marwede” is the largest sea rescue cruiser of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). Since its commissioning in 2003, its crews have completed more than 600 missions in the German Bight - serving sailors, fishermen, ferry passengers and water sports on the world's busiest shipping lanes. More than 1,000 sea rescuers are deployed in 60 rescue units around 2,000 times a year - around the clock, in all weathers, financed exclusively through voluntary donations. Since it was founded in 1865, the DGzRS has rescued more than 86,000 people from distress at sea or rescued them from danger.
