Introduced March 1, 2008, the Namer is built on the Merkava Mk.4 platform and has been fielded by the Israeli Defense Forces since summer 2008. The vehicle incorporates modular armor, V-shaped hull protection, and NBC defense systems. Armament options include a Browning M2 heavy machine gun or Mk.19 automatic grenade launcher mounted on a Samson RCWS turret, plus a 7.62mm FN MAG and single 60mm mortar. Capacity includes 12 crew and fully equipped infantry. The model represents three variants: late production, command configuration, and Trophy Active Protection System-equipped version.
