Description

The EF510 type is an AC/DC electric locomotive for the Japan Sea Transverse Line that appeared in Heisei 14 (2002). Nicknamed "RED THUNDER", it was introduced as a replacement for the EF81 used in the same section.

From 2010, the 500 series belonging to JR Japan East appeared for the sleeper limited express "Hokutoboshi" and "Cassiopeia", but in Heisei 27 (2015), "Hokutoboshi" and the following year "Cassiopeia" due to the end of regular operation, all aircraft were transferred to JR Freight's Toyama engine district. In addition to the Japan Sea Line, it is also active in hauling freight trains as far west as Okayama and in the Chukyo area. Transferred from JR East Japan to JR Freight, Units 509 and 510, which became all silver, appeared as HO gauge.
