During the African campaign the British employed some private Stuart wagons of the turret as troop carriers or artillery tractors. Then it was later that to make up for the lack of armored vehicles that the Canadian General Guy Simonds ordered the field workshops to remove the cannon to the ancient self-propelled M7 Priest to convert them into vehicles used for infantry transport. The success of this operation soon spread among all the Commonwelth troops and soon every obsolete tank was transformed into Kangaroo, this is the name given to this type of conversion, which allowed the transport of fully equipped soldiers in combat configuration directly on the front line.
