The RNZAF formed No. 489 Squadron with Beaufort Mk.I aircraft in August 1941, flying them through winter 1942. The SAAF received 18 Beaufort Mk.I aircraft in late 1941 for coastal patrol duties protecting shipping around the Cape of Good Hope; these were organized into the 36th and 37th Coastal Flights in 1942, initially conducting patrols before engaging in operations against Vichy French forces in the Madagascar region. The RCAF also operated the type with Nos. 149 and 415 Squadrons, employing them for patrol and anti-submarine defense until 1943.
