Description

SKU: ICM53055 | Brand: ICM | Product: ICM 1/35 Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe with M-121 bomb Plastic Model Kit This model kit depicts the CH-54A Tarhe heavy-lift helicopter as employed by the US Army during the Vietnam War. The CH-54A transported varied cargo including weapons, ammunition, vehicles (excavators, bulldozers, trucks, and boats), and specialized ordnance. The kit includes the M-121 super-heavy bomb, a weapon carried by the CH-54A to rapidly clear forest vegetation beneath landing zones, enabling shorter approach times and improved tactical flexibility. The M-121 was field-modified for this role: rear fuselage sections and tail stabilizers were removed, a parachute system added for descent control, and the nose fitted with an extended fuze for detonation approximately 3 feet above ground. These modified M-121 bombs remained in service until supplies were exhausted, with the final mission recorded on August 8, 1970. The model represents Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe serial 67-18416 (478 HHC, 1st Cavalry Division) as deployed from Phu Bai Air Base in autumn 1968. Scale: 1:35. Assembled model dimensions: 774 x 225 mm.
