Why this kit matters The Tupolev Tu-144 was the world’s first supersonic passenger aircraft to fly, taking to the air in 1968 ahead of Concorde.

Developed in the Soviet Union, it was designed to carry passengers at speeds above Mach 2 and represented a major technological project during the Cold War.

The Tu-144D was an improved long-range version fitted with updated engines and systems.

Although its commercial passenger service lasted only a short time, the aircraft became one of the most recognisable symbols of Soviet aerospace ambition.

Its retractable foreplanes, large delta wing and distinctive nose design made it visually unique among civil aircraft. A 1/144 scale plastic model kit of the Tu-144D offers a standout subject in any airliner or Cold War aviation collection.
