The Ausf.C variant was manufactured using 3.Serie/B.W. chassis numbered 80301–80440. Like all Ausf.A through E models, these tanks mounted a short 7.5cm main gun and MG34 coaxial machine gun. The B and C variants featured a vision port and pistol port on the superstructure front plate, replacing the machine gun ball mount. This front plate was constructed as a single flat component with driver and radio operator visors aligned in the same plane. A bolted outer armored mantle covered the turret front, protecting the junction between the internal gun mantle and turret wall. Production of the Ausf.C ran from October 1938 to August 1939, with only 134 units completed. In August 1939, six of the 3.Serie/B.W. chassis underwent conversion for bridge-laying duties.
