RAAF airframe A21-29 was accepted in April 1988. During May 1990 deployment to Clark Air Base in the Philippines, a Top Hat and Cane insignia was applied to the tail identifying the aircraft as the Commanding Officer's personal mount. On August 2, 1990, A21-29 and A21-42 departed RAAF Tindal for training intercepts; during aggressive maneuvering A21-42 lost visual contact and collided with A21-29, which successfully returned to base.
