Hobby Master 1/72 F-106A Delta Dart 90053, 87th FIS "Red Bulls", KI. Sawyer AFB, 1970s Diecast Aircraft

The Convair F-106 Delta Dart began as an advanced version of the F-102 but because of so many modifications and design changes it became a new aircraft with its own designation. It was designed as a missile carrying all-weather interceptor against Soviet bombers and served in this role from the 1960s until the 1980s. The F-106A as well as the F-106B two-seat trainer served with 15 fighter interceptor squadrons starting in 1959. The aircraft was rarely referred to as the Delta Dart but was commonly called the “6”.

F-106A Delta Dart 90053 MSN 8-24-182 was completed in early 1960 and delivered to the 318th Fighter Interceptor Squadron / 325th FW at McChord AFB, WA on April 5, 1960. Over the years the aircraft spent time with the 498th FIS, 84th FIS and in September 1974 became the property of the 87th FIS “Red Bulls” at Sawyer AFB, MI. On August 10, 1983 90053 was sent to MASDC as FN014 in 1991 became a drone and was shot down at Tyndall AFB, FL May 18, 1994.
