Description

Construction of the Furutaka was started at the Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard in December 1922 and completed in March 1926.

In the naval arms race following World War I, the Imperial Japanese Navy conceived the so-called 8-8 Fleet Plan, consisting of eight battleships and eight battlecruisers, and was in dire need of cruisers to escort the capital ships and perform reconnaissance duties. As a result, it was decided to build a 7,100-ton class scout cruiser and a 10,000-ton class large cruiser.

A newly tooled waterline kit of the heavy cruiser Furutaka ("Ancient Hawk" in Japanese), the namesake of its class. Decal sheet includes markings for both the Furutaka and its sister ship, the Kako.
