Description

Hasegawa 1/450 IJN Aircraft Carrier Shinano '80th Anniversary of Keel Laid' (Bonus pin badge included.) # SP478 Shinano was a Japanese carrier that was launched in October 1944 and commissioned into the Imperial Japanese Navy in November 1944 after its keel was laid in May 1940.

The ship's length was 266 metres, the launch deck was 38.9 metres wide, and the total displacement was 71,900 tonnes.

The aircraft carrier Shinano's top speed was 27 knots, and its primary armament included as many as 120 on-board planes! The Shinano was supposed to be the third battleship in the Yamato series, but construction was halted as early as December 1940.

They were only restored to them in 1942, but work on converting Shinano into an aircraft carrier continued, with the on-board armament being replaced with fuel tanks and spare parts depots.

It was the world's largest aircraft carrier at the time of its launch! This big unit, however, did not actually participate in World War II since, despite the presence of destroyers, it was destroyed by the American submarine USS Archerfish during her inaugural trip from Yokosuki to Kure.

Four torpedoes struck the target, and Shinano sank on November 29, 1944.
