The Mk103 was an electrically-fired, recoil and gas-operated automatic weapon capable of engaging air and ground targets, delivering 280 rounds per minute with high explosive ammunition or 420 rounds per minute with armor-piercing rounds. The original experimental four-gun configuration suffered structural limitations, as the mounting had been adapted from the lighter 2cm Flak 38 design, resulting in excessive vibration affecting both equipment and crew performance.
