Description

This model kit was announced at the 61st Shizuoka Hobby Show! The Trippel SG 6 is an amphibious vehicle developed by German Hans Trippel in the 1930s, and used by the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS in World War II. In 1935, Trippel produced a prototype of an off-road type amphibious vehicle incorporating a running device into a ship-shaped body and showed it to Nazi executives. He then developed an amphibious passenger car named SG 6 at his own factory in Homburg. After winning an order for twenty of the SG 6 from the German Army, Trippel produced them from 1938 to 1940. To promote the SG 6 to the Italian military, Trippel also demonstrated a ground run from Homburg to Naples, and then a floating move to Capri. The initial model produced from  1938 is called SG 6/38, and the new amphibious vehicle mass-produced at the Molsheim automobile factory in Alsace starting in 1941 is called SG 6/41. Full-scale production of the Type 166 Schwimmwagen began in the fall of 1942; they were widely deployed, and production of the SG 6/41 ended around 1943. Although it varies depending on the materials, it is said that the number of SG 6s produced was anywhere from 200 to 1,000, including the SG 6/38 and SG 6/41.

This model kit from Das Werk comes with photo-etched parts and decals for five versions.
