It employed a newly engineered twin cam 16-valve 4A-G engine, upgrading from the earlier 2T-G. Both the Corolla Levin and its Sprinter Trueno counterpart offered 3-door hatchback and 2-door coupe configurations, with engine type determining designation—AE86 for the 4A-G and AE85 for the 1500 cc 3A-U. The 1985 refresh brought restyled front and rear bumpers, updated rear combination light and new interior colours. This model captures the sought-after "Hachiroku" character from the later iteration, outfitted with factory-option components including Intra aluminium wheels, mud flap, side step and rear spoiler.
