The Pontiac GTO is a car that was produced by Pontiac in the United States from 1963 to 1974. In the 1960s, the first model of the GTO is credited with popularising muscle cars. In 1968, the GTO was named the Motor Trend Car of the Year. From the 2004 through 2006 model years, Pontiac brought back the GTO as a captive import. In 1967, the GTO received some minor cosmetic tweaks. Eight taillights, four on each side, were installed in place of the louver-covered taillights. In 1967, Rally II wheels with colourful lug nuts became available. The GTO badges that were formerly situated on the rear fenders were relocated to the chrome rocker panels. The grille was altered from a split to a shared grille with considerable chrome. Three body styles were available for the GTO in 1967: 65,176 hardtops were built. 9,517 convertibles were made. 7,029 sports coupes were built. The two-speed automatic transmission was also replaced with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic TH-400 transmission, which came with a Hurst Performance dual-gate shifter, dubbed a "his/hers" shifter, that allowed for automatic shifting in "drive" or manual gear selection. In 1967, front disc brakes were also available. The 1967 GTO sales reached 81,722 units.
