Unquestionably one of the most elegant aircraft of the Second World War, the Mitsubishi Ki-46 (Allied reporting name ‘Dinah’) was a high-performance reconnaissance aircraft which was later pressed into service as both an interceptor and strike attack platform. 

It was claimed that the Luftwaffe were so impressed with the Ki-46 that they attempted to secure manufacturing rights for it during the war. 

We now have manufacturing rights for the model kit version, so that you can make your own 1/72 scale Mitsubishi Ki-46-II on your workbench.

History

The Mitsubishi Ki-46 was initially designed as a high-speed reconnaissance aircraft and later adapted for use as an interceptor and strike aircraft. Its design prioritised speed and altitude, resulting in an aerodynamic form that made it one of the most visually appealing aircraft of the war. Its reconnaissance role was crucial, providing vital intelligence across the Pacific theatre.

The Luftwaffe reportedly admired the Ki-46 so much that they sought to acquire manufacturing rights during the war, highlighting the aircraft's superior design and capabilities.
