History

The Gloster Meteor, in many ways, stands as Britain's jet-powered counterpart to the Spitfire, heralding a new generation of fighters that would safeguard British airspace for years after its squadron debut in July 1944.

The F.8 version is often considered the most capable iteration of the Meteor, serving as the mainstay of Britain's fighter defence for five years post-introduction.

With 1,183 units produced, the F.8 was both the last single-seat fighter variant of the Meteor and the most extensively manufactured, arguably marking it as a key British aircraft in the post-war period.
