Sd.Kfz.250/3 "GREIF" Rommel's Command Half-Track

The best-known Sd.Kfz.250/3 of all was one used by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, the Desert Fox, during operations in North Africa. He christened his particular vehicle “Greif”, which translates as griffin. In actual fact, “Greif” featured an Sd.Kfz.250/Z Panzeraufbau armored superstructure that had unique characteristics such as a vision port in the rear door and a different overhanging shape at the rear.

The Sd.Kfz.250 is the official designation for a light armored personnel carrier developed by the German army during World War II, based on a 1t half-track. The Sd.Kfz.250/1 variant could transport up to 4 troops. The A model, produced from March 1941 to September 1943, saw 4,250 units made, and the simplified B model, produced from September 1943 until the end of the war, saw 2,378 units made.
