Description

The Saab Viggen is a jet fighter originally developed, deployed and operated by Sweden. Its development started in 1961 as a successor to the Drakken. It made its first flight in 1967, and was deployed and began operation in 1971. The body is equipped with canards on the left and right side of the cockpit, and the main wings are of the delta design. It's equipped with a Pratt & Whitney JT8D-22 engine. It has a maximum speed of Mach 2.1, and also boasts STOL performance that enables takeoff and landing on short runways. In addition to being equipped with a 30mm Oerlikon KCA gun as a fixed armament, it was possible to also carry the RB71 Skyflash short-range air-to-air missile and the AIM-120 AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missile. The lineup included the AJ37 basic type, the all-weather fighter type JA37, and the S37 reconnaissance type, with a total production of over 300 aircraft. It was retired in 2005 awaiting the arrival of its successor, the Saab Gripen.

This model kit from Platz combines parts by Italeri with a Japanese-language manual and markings not found in the Italeri kit. The unique style with its canards is fully reproduced, as are the panel lines, delicate landing gear, details in the landing gear storage space, the cockpit, and more. Decals by Cartograf are included for two versions of the aircraft from the green camouflage era, and a painting mask for the canopy frame is also included. Order yours today!
