Production of the U.S. Navy's carrier-capable fighter F/A-18C Hornet started in 1979; after a few upgrades, it made its first flight in 1987. It's equipped with two GE F404-GE-402 turbofan engines with an output of 7330kg when the afterburner is used; it boasts a top speed of 1,190mph and a cruising range of 1,250mph. With a combat radius of 460 miles, it was highly capable as a fleet defense fighter and interceptor. It carries a 20mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon on the fuselage, and nine hard points under the wings and fuselage are ready to carry more armaments such as AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, Maverick air-to-ground missiles, and Harpoon anti-ship missiles. The E/F type has subsequently taken over the role of the C type.
