Description

The Austin 8 was a British passenger car that went into production in February 1939. The car was manufactured in 1939-1943 and 1945-1948. In total, about 56,000 cars of this type were produced. The drive was provided by a single, 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 0.9 liters and power of 24-27 KM. The length of the car was 3.79 meters, and the wheelbase was 2.24 meters. Austin 8 was developed to replace the 7 model in the company's offer, but also the Cambridge 10 car. Compared to its predecessors, it had a significantly changed shape and style of the body. Although it was powered by the same engine as the Cambridge 10, the power unit was modernized. The car was offered with a 2- and 4-door body, especially as a saloon. Shortly before the outbreak of World War II, a military version was introduced into production, designated as Austin 8AP Tourer or Austin 8 Tilly. Probably about 9,000-9,500 cars of this version were built. In the British armed forces, these cars were primarily staff vehicles.
