Rye Field 1/35 M1A1/ A2 Abrams with Full Interior 2 in 1
The M1A1 was first introduced in 1985, manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems, followed by the M1A2 in 1986. The US Army produced 4,796 M1A1 tanks. The M1A1 is currently one of the best MBTs in the world. From the Out-dated M1 battle tanks, approximately 1000 obsolete were upgraded to the M1A2 standard. It is currently estimated that this tank will remain in service far beyond 2050.
Use in the Australian Army
In March 2004, the Australian army purchased 59 US Army M1A1 tanks, for use in service from 2007. Today the 1st Armoured Regiment is based in Darwin, is currently the only armoured unit to be equipped with main battle tanks including the M1A1.
The M1A1 and M1A2 was equipped with a 120mm smoothbore as the main gun, 2 X 7.62mm machine guns and 1 X12.7mm machine gun.
The minimum elevation range that the guns can reach is -9 degrees, with a maximum of 20 degrees, whilst having a traverse range of 360 degrees.
The tank holds an ammunition load of 40 X 120-mm rounds, and 12400 7.62mm rounds and 1000 12.7mm rounds.
