Description

The Triumph Herald, introduced in 1959, was looked upon as being quite a radical design.  Its tilt forward bonnet and unusual styling, along with all-round independent suspension were a breakaway from the traditional design theories of the era.  The original engine was a four cylinder, single carburettor 948cc unit which was enlarged to 1147cc with twin carburettors for certain models.  Other body styles available through the production years were Coupe, Convertible and Estate.

Description

Designed in the late 1930s, the Beetle was the original Volkswagen or peoples car. The fairly cheap, reliable small car sold well, outstripping original estimates. In 1972, the iconic Volkswagen Beetle became the production world champion, bypassing the Ford T model, which was until that year, the most produced car. The most produced Volkswagen model is now the Golf.

The Beetle is today a cult classic, its place in automotive history assured not just through its longevity and high production numbers, but also its celebrity status afforded by film appearances and use as an art installation.

Airfix 1/72 Boulton Paul Defiant Starter Set Airfix 1/72 Boulton Paul Defiant Starter Set
$29.99
In stock

Description

The Boulton-Paul Defiant was the only ‘turret fighter’ to enter service with the RAF. The Defiant used the philosophy that a fighter aircraft, armed solely with a turret bristling with machine guns would be able to enter a bomber stream causing havoc and the turret would also enable it to defend itself from enemy fighters.

During its first few engagements during the Battle of Britain in 1940, enemy pilots were taken by surprise and the Defiant fared well but soon the Luftwaffe pilots worked out its weaknesses, especially the lack of forward firing guns and the Defiant was soon relegated to night fighting duties were it fared better.
