Description

The Nagmashot (or: Nagma-Shot) is a modern day Israeli heavy tracked APC. The first cars of this type entered service in 1984. The wagon is 7.55 meters long and 3.39 meters wide. The drive is provided by a single Continental engine AVDS-1790-2A with a power of 750 hp. The armament consists of four 7.62 mm machine guns.

The Nagmashot was developed for the Israeli Armed Forces as a far-reaching modernization of the Sho't Kal tanks, which in turn were a development of the British Centurion tanks. The new vehicle was created as a result of the experiences of the conflict in Lebanon in 1982, when the lightly armored M113 carriers suffered relatively high losses as a result of fire from various types of anti-tank grenade launchers or other anti-tank weapons. In order to minimize the losses incurred in this way, it was decided to modernize some Sho't Kal tanks by disassembling their turrets, a large part of the equipment inside the car and adding a special, armored casemates in place of the turret. There was also some space for 8 landing soldiers with full equipment. However, the same fuselage, suspension, engine or - especially! - armor. As a result, the first heavy tracked armored personnel carrier in the history of the Israeli army was created, providing soldiers with a very high level of ballistic protection. It is worth adding that many of these cars were converted into Nagmachon cars in the 1990s.
