Description

The Reggiane 2002 was developed for the Italian Aviation as an attack aircraft, based on the previous RE.2000 fighter. These aircraft had an enhanced engine and increased armament: two winged guns were added to the two fixed in the nose. Furthermore, the Aries, as it was called RE.2002, had a good load capacity being able to use bombs until at 500 Kg. The units equipped with this aircraft were intensively used against the invasion fleet allied to Sicily in 1943. Following the Italian armistice in September of the same year the surviving planes were used by the Luftwaffe, who had an own version produced in about 200 copies.
