The Arado Ar 196 was the main embarked reconnaissance seaplane used by the Kriegsmarine during the Second World War. Single-engine low-wing monoplane housed 2 crew members arranged, in the cockpit, in tandem: the pilot and the observer-gunner. The Arado Ar 196 was a very modern aircraft for the period. The BMW 132 9-cylinder radial engine delivered 960 horsepower. The Arado structure was optimized for use on board the main battleships and cruisers of the German navy. It could in fact be launched from the catapults of the ships and its wings were hinged with the fuselage so as to fold them backwards for better shelter on board. while the most famous ship of the Kriegsmarine, the Bismarck, had at least 4 Arado Ar 196) was also used in the seaplane areas with the role of coastal patrol.
