A recent arrival with UK importers The Hobby Company is a welcome re-issue of an older Dragon kit in 1/35, their Kubelwagen Ambulance with medical crew. The Kubelwagen is a very nicely detailed kit in itself, but adding the stretchers and the medical team figures makes this ideal for anyone who likes building vignettes or large dioramas. So what we have in this one is a nicely detailed kit of the Kubelwagen, with separate parts for the floor boards and even for the external door handles. Doors and separate and there is even the basic engine in the back if you want to open up the rear access hatch. It is a nicely done model of the Kubelwagen itself, and it is intended to fit the stretcher while also omitting the front passenger seat. Also in the box though the full tilt is included if you want to build the basic Kubel and leave the medical team separately for other projects. For a few details, there is also the inclusion of a small fret of etch brass parts, which even include the windscreen wipers. Transfers include the Red Cross markings and perhaps the only thing I am still not keen on, the number plates have individual digits for you to make up whatever number plate you want. This is all very well but they are tiny and all need to be sealed in place once they are all applied. I do feel it is a shame that they don't include one set of pre-printed number plates as the tiny individual characters I know do put some people off. What really marks this kit out are the assorted figures that are included with it. There are actually 8 complete figures inside the box, though 6 are planned for use with this version. So you have a seated driver, a wounded figure laying on the stretcher, an orderly supporting a walking wounded comrade, plus a nurse and a doctor wearing his surgical apron. You will be left with a co-driver and a kneeling figure for spares. This makes for a potential diorama theme all in the one box, and a good one too. Thanks to the Hobby Company, the UK importers and Dragon Models for our example.
This is a plastic model kit, which comes unassembled and unpainted. So glue, model paints and other basic modelling tools are additionally required.
