Postage Stamp - 1/63 Fokker Dr. 1 Red Baron
The Fokker Dr.1 was made famous by World War I German air ace Manfred von Richthofen, who became known as the “Red Baron”. Although Richthofen made only 19 of his 80 recorded kills in this distinctive triplane, it became the instantly recognizable symbol of early air combat. He was flying in the Fokker Dr.1 when he was mortally wounded by ground fire from Australian troops on 21 April 1918. He managed to land the plane before dying of his wounds.
The Fokker Dr.1 had a 110-hp cylinder rotary engine, with allowed a maximum speed of 115 mph / 185 kph, and carried two Spandau MG 08 7.92-mm synchronized machine guns.
This diecast metal airplane model comes in 1:63 scale with plastic stand and is approximately 3 3/4 inches (9.5cm) long with a 4 1/2 inch (11.43cm) wingspan.
